Jezen Thomas
Co-Founder & CTO at Supercede.
Fractional CTO
I've built and led an engineering team from zero through a $15M Series A. Now I work with seed-to-Series-A founders facing the same problems I just navigated — typically one day a week.
Background
I co-founded Supercede, a reinsurance technology company, where I'm CTO. I built the engineering team from scratch and led it through pre-seed, seed, and a $15M Series A. I maintain the Yesod web framework in the Haskell ecosystem. Over fifteen years I've shipped production systems in Haskell, Ruby on Rails, PHP, Clojure, and modern frontend stacks.
How I Help
- Technical strategy and architecture decisions
- Hiring your first engineers and building the team
- Reviewing work from contractors and agencies
- Engineering process — just enough, never too much
- Technology and vendor evaluation
- Being the technical voice in investor conversations and due diligence
How I Work
Most of my clients are non-technical founders at seed or Series A, building B2B software, with teams of five to thirty. One day a week is usually the right shape — enough to make the decisions that matter, not so much that I become a bottleneck.
I believe most seed-stage startups hire their first engineer too early, run too many meetings, and adopt process before they've earned the right to. The best engineering cultures I've seen are the ones where people have space to think clearly and do focused work. I optimise for that.
Engagements typically start at £4,500/month for one day a week.
